This morning we went to the jade factory. It is a government run facility where they still train the craft of hand carving through a master and apprentice training model. This tradition has been handed down from father to son since the 14th century. There are still employees working there whose family has been carving for over 7 generations. We also learned that true quality jade is one of the hardest stones in existence and is second only to a diamond. It also comes in array of colors. Had much fun shopping.

Fun fact of the day: I’m pretty sure Ruiqi means Jade in Chinese. I wonder how much she is worth on the market…..
